Diva died in her sleep October 6 2004.
Our dog pack has grown with one more beauceron. Not a puppy this time though, but instead a real lady. Her name is Diva and she was almost 9 years old when she moved in with us. She comes, as do Kenzo and Chili, from Kennel Roseole's outside Uppsala in Sweden.
She is related to Kenzo och Chili - she is littermate with Kenzos father Immer and Chilis mother Isa. So you could say that Diva is the aunt of Chili and Kenzo.
The reason for Diva changing home so late in her life was because her owner, due to changed family situation, no longer had the possibility to take care of Diva. Finding a new home for a dog 9 years old is not the easiest thing to do. We volountered to take Diva if nobody else was interested - on the condition that it worked out with our dogs and cats.
Tuesday 4 May Diva and her owner came to visit us. Diva got along good with Kenzo and Chili, once she had given them a lecture on how to treat an "old lady"... She didn't show much interest in the cats, who were sleeping in the living room, and she seemed to be all in all a nice and calm dog. We decided that we should try for a couple of weeks to see if everything workd out okay.
Unfortunately the lack of interest for the cats didn't last long. As soon as she discovered the cats moving around, she would try to chase them. She scared Klara pretty bad; Friday is more cool and didn't bother so much even though he got chased one time. Klara was so scared that she kept away from the house for several days. It didn't look good. We knew that if Diva and the cats didn't get along we would have to return Diva to her owner, whom in turn saw no way out except to put her down.
Fortunately the whole thing finally solved itself - when Diva chased Friday I was lucky enough to catch her and to really tell her off for chasing the cats. Diva is not that tough, so after this "telling off" she left the cats alone. After a couple of weeks she even had the courage to sniff out Friday and now she is getting along great with both cats and dogs in our pack.
Poor Klara also finally recovered from the shock and started to come inside again.
