Some more about Chili

So we finally got a puppy instead of an older dog. 28 July 2002 we went to Kennel Roseole's in Uppsala to pick up Chili, a harlequin male whos pedigree name is Roseole's Ag Brochet En Blanquette.

Kenzo and Chili are cousins - Kenzos father Immer and Chilis mother Isa were littermates.

Chili can best be described as a clown. A very happy and lively clown, with an almost constantly wagging tail. He is also a cuddler - he really likes close contact, loves to be really close to you, preferably with his head in your lap. He is still (at 5 years of age) very much like a young puppy, but he has grown in to his size and has become a very handsome boy.

He is also a very nice dog. We haven't had a conflict with him ever, not even when he was a "teenager". He never refused to come when called, never left our side to sa hello to another dog without permission etc. Yet he is a very lively, energetic dog, most of the time he does things in full speed. He loves to work and he is a pleasure to work with, wheter it is obedience or field work - he loves it all and he has a good working drive, he doesn't quit when things get hard.

Chili and Kenzo has two different types of personality, still it is very clear thtat they are both Beaucerons. Chili is a lot more sensitive, both with people and other dogs. He really likes other dogs, but he is also a bit cautious in meeting new dogs. But he is always friendly; he has never been in a conflict with another dog, except with Kenzo and that is of course a bit different.

Actually, Chili is one of the kindest dogs I've ever met. His cousin Kenzo is also a very kind dog but with a bit more temper. Chili could be described as a "gentle giant" - he has unfortunately overgrown a bit, I think he is around 72 cm in height, though quite well-proportioned.

Unlike Kenzo, Chili isn't very sociable with strangers. But as long as nobody tries to handle him physically, he is quite calm about people. Walking in the city wiht him is a pure pleasure; he doesn't care about people even if the walk really close and he doesn't try to say hello to everybody like Kenzo does... Like many non-sociable dogs, he prefers women before men; I think this has to do with the fact that most women has a gentler approach, and isn't as dominating as most men. I don't have a problem with non-sociable dogs; it has it's advantages, but I know that a lot of people (at least in Sweden) wants a dog that is more sociable than Chili. On the other hand - Chili never uses aggression to get out of a situation, instead he always chooses to back away if he finds somebody threatening. Otherwise it probably would have been a bigger concern for us, if he had chosen to act on his insecurity with aggresive behaviour. But since he doesn't, this is not a problem for us.

To sum up - Chili is a wonderful, kind and playfull dog that I am most happy to have in my life! I would love to have another dog like him with this fantastic personality, kindness and working ability.
